Hello, my name is Clare Martin, owner of The Skep.
The Skep Knitting & Quilting Shop has been around for over thirty years moving into its current location in Springfield Commercial Centre in Farsley in 2012. It was a mill shop originally and is still located in an old mill, in fact in a building that was a wool shop in the 1960's.
I took over the business in 2008 and since then have moved into bigger premises to accommodate a substantial increase in stock and give us room for our quilting, crochet and knitting classes.
We currently stock around 1000 cotton fabrics for quilting and dressmaking by Makower, Riley Blake, Andover, Windham, Benartex, Henry Glass, Michael Miller, Robert Kauffman, Kona and more.
Our yarns are Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding, Mirasol, Araucania, Rico, Bergere de France, Woolcraft, Jarol and Cygnet.
We have a variety of accessories including quilting rulers, cutters and mats, Knitpro needles, Gutterman threads, precuts, dress it up buttons and much, much more.
For our quilting classes we have Brioni Greenberg, inspirational teacher, published author and founder member of Fat Quarterly ezine.
For our knitting and crochet classes we have Maureen McIlwraith, hugely experienced teacher with a wide range of skills, some of which we are very grateful to utilise here at The Skep, the rest she uses at her sewing school www.smallfrysewing.com.
The online business came into being to provide customers far and wide the great variety of products we offer, and although the mill is long gone, we are still able to provide some 'mill shop' bargains!
Our service is personal, attentive and individual to serve our customers needs.
I have been knitting since I was 5 years old, quilting for twenty years and as a lefthander learned to crochet here in the shop, taught by Maureen! I am passionate about quilting, knitting and crochet, love everything that I stock and try all new products out myself. If it doesn't meet our high standards, it never makes it onto the shelf.
Pam worked in the shop even before I did, a superb knitter, she has since learned to crochet and attends all our quilting classes. She is always available to help with yarn and fabric choices, pattern help and has been known to teach people to knit in a quiet moment!
We aim to provide as good an online service as we do in the shop and are grateful to all our customers old and new for all their support.
